CLEOBURY Mortimer was the venue for this year’s Flowfit Ludlow and District Bowls League Veterans competition and once again it was Burway’s Roy Crowther who came out on top as he won the title for a fourth time in the event’s five-year history.

In the final he faced Cleobury’s own Roy Broome and took the honours 21-14. Coming from the home club, Broome started on -2 and Crowther had soon raced into an 11-5 lead. Broome battled back to trail by three at 14-11 but Crowther was soon back in control and eased to victory.

Earlier, Crowther had beaten Graham Lane 21-16 in the quarter-final and he then saw off Ludlow Castle's Colin Lane 21-12 in the last four. Broome booked his place in the final with 21-10 victory over Lillian Payne of Craven Arms.

There was a fascinating contest in the final of the League Juniors with reigning champion Harry Parsonage retaining his title by beating George Cooper 21-17

With both lads representing the county at junior level, a good game was expected and the youngsters didn't let any of those watching down.

Cooper, who plays for Temesters, came out flying and looked in total command as he opened up a 13-4 lead.

Parsonage then won the jack back and soon took Cooper corners on the tricky Cleobury Mortimer green on his way to a 17-13 lead. Cooper battled to within a shot of Parsonage but the reigning champion, representing the Corve, used his experience to clinch the silverware for a second time.
