THE resistance of Richard Fifield and Andrew Lewis was not enough to save Bishop’s Castle from a four-wicket defeat at Wheaton Aston in Shropshire Division Two

The visitors had been put in to bat with Ben Marston (2-25) swiftly dismissing two of the top three before Fifield (71*) settled in.

Lewis (48) helped to keep the scoreboard ticking over before Tom Smith (2-28) and Jason Corr (2-47) started working their magic on the middle and lower orders.

Defending 183 for seven, Castle rarely looked comfortable with openers Nathan Whittingham (57) and Will Curtiss (24) then Corr (24) scoring well.

Ben Courtis made 23 and the hosts trundled over the winning line on 184 for six with seven balls to spare.

Ross Mantle’s 98 from 95 deliveries swung the pendulum as Corvedale beat Chelmarsh by 30 runs in Shropshire Division Three.

Lea Burton (44) added support and despite a dearth of runs from elsewhere, 190 was enough as Burton (3-34) thwarted any danger. Chelmarsh finished the afternoon on 163 for eight.
