CLEE Hill United toppled Mercian League champions Oakengates Athletic 3-1 to lift the Premier Division Cup on Saturday.

Craig Breakwell, Kieran Hall and Liam Whitbread struck in the showpiece held at AFC Telford United’s New Bucks Head as United ended their cup-final hoodoo.

Boss Wayne Whitbread said: “We had lost in the final of the Division One Cup three times so we desperately wanted to put that right.

“It had to happen and, hopefully, breaking that duck will help us to kick on and win more silverware. The lads played brilliantly throughout and didn’t need any motivating.

“You could tell I didn’t need to say much in the changing room before the match and they fully deserved the success.”

The rivals are set to meet one more time to bring down the curtain on league matters at the Knowle Sports Ground on Saturday (3pm).

In Division One, a hat-trick from Aaron Hodge and one for Ryan Lewis helped Craven Arms Town to edge a seven-goal thriller 4-3 at Madeley Sports Reserves.

Town have already been granted a walkover in Saturday’s scheduled fixture against St Georges United. Brown Clee are set to host third-placed Newport Town Reserves (3pm).
