BURWAY trio Nick Lewis, Len Lewis and Kiah Roberts took the honours at the Flowfit Ludlow and District Bowls League Triples Competition which took place at their own Burway Bowling Club.

They just managed to see off ‘teammates’ Wayne Rogers, Kevin Dovey and Duncan Pressley in the final with the spectators treated to some quality bowls.

There had been a shock in the preliminary round when the Corve/Temesters trio of Andrew Stewardson, Doog Williams and Graham Prince upset the fancied Ludlow Castle team of Carl Bowen, Richard Lane and Mal Griffiths, coming from behind to win 21-20.

But their run in the competition was ended by Rogers, Dovey and Pressley who ran out 21-8 victors.

The other semi-final saw the eventual winners take on Ludlow Castle's Nicky Beard, Dave Wilding and Simon Lane and once again home advantage saw the Burway boys race into a convincing early lead before seeing out the contest 21-16.

All six finalists had starred in Burway's brilliant 12-0 whitewash of reigning Premier League champions Sir John Bayley two nights previously and there was plenty of quality on show in the final.

Lewis, Lewis and Roberts started strongly to open up a 16-4 lead. They looked to be heading for a comfortable win but a change in the order of Rogers, Dovey and Pressley proved a masterstroke as, with Dovey leading well, they closed to 16-12.

The drama continued as the score progressed to 20-19 before a change of order from their opponents saw Nick Lewis lead and put a near toucher on with his first wood. A couple of fires didn’t connect and Lewis, Lewis and Roberts wrapped up the silverware.
