A FIVE-wicket haul for Aaron Morris and a second successive half century from Tom Gloster helped make it back-to-back wins for Tenbury in Division Four of the Worcestershire League.

But skipper Zack Yarranton was also quick to praise teenage opener Henry Anton and the fielding of Kier Sellers as the Penlu side eased to an eight-wicket victory over visitors Bromsgrove 3rds.

Having been out in to bat, Bromsgrove started well and looked secure until they lost their opener to a run out.

Morris then took 5-58 with Yarranton and Rob Farrar taking two wickets apiece as they had their opponents all out for 178.

“We hadn’t really got into the game when Kier [Sellers] has taken a shy at the stumps and run out their opener,” the Tenbury captain said. “They were a young side and the opener was one of their more experienced players so it was a big wicket and set the tone for the game.

“Aaron [Morris] has then come on and bowled really well. He’s taken five wickets and when you get a ‘five-for’ then you often go on to win.”

Rugby schoolboy Anton led the reply with an excellent 68 not out and he was well supported by Andy Adams before he was dismissed with a brilliant catch out on the boundary for 24.

Gloster (55) chipped in with another quickfire half-century with Sellers (12no) hitting three boundaries to guide Tenbury to victory.

Anton and Gloster are unavailable for the trip to Claverley on Saturday – a side just above Tenbury in the table – so the skipper needs someone else to step up to the plate.

“We know we can’t call on Henry every week but even without him and Tom we should have a strong side this weekend,” Yarranton said. “We just need someone to come up with the runs.

“Shandy [Andy Adams] was unlucky on Saturday. He’s belted one to Cow Corner which looks a certain six but their fielder has run around the boundary and launched himself. The ball’s hit his hand and stuck!”

Tenbury 2nd lost by eight wickets at Himbleton 2nd, opener Ben Thompson top scoring with 33.

In the Marches League, Cleobury Mortimer beat visitors Ledbury by five wickets in their Division Two clash.

Put into bat, Ledbury started brightly with opener Joshua Evans hitting 55 before being caught behind off the bowling off Oliver Rowland. The Cleobury bowler went on to take 6-36 as the Herefordshire side were dismissed for 163.

In reply, there was a steady flow of runs before Michael Green (41no) and Oliver Green (19no) guided the home side to victory in the 36th over.

Also in Division Two, Knighton-on-Teme lost by four wickets at Eastnor 3rd.

This weekend sees Knighton and Cleobury go head to head at Newnham Bridge with the hosts looking for their first win of the campaign.
