KNIGHTON-on-Teme had to settle for a losing draw against Ledbury in the opening game in Division Two of the Marches League.

On a decent batting track Ledbury posted 272-8 from their 45 overs, Richard Grosvenor taking 2-20 including the wicket of big-hitting dangerman Jamie Turner.

In reply, opener Matthew James hit 37 off 40 balls but it needed skipper Robbie James (30) and Dan Pullen (38no) to steady the innings and deny their hosts victory. Knighton finished on 197-8.

Also in Division Two, it was a disappointing start to life in the Marches League for Cleobury Mortimer who were beaten by 50 runs by Colwall 3rd.

When the home side were dismissed for 141 with the final ball, it all looked rosy for Ed Kemp’s side. But it wasn’t to be and some accurate Colwall bowling had the visitors back in the pavilion for just 91.

Cleobury play host to Ledbury on Saturday while Knighton travel again, this time to Eastnor.
