LUDLOW Golf Club youngster Jonathan Price was among the honours when the club held its Junior Open, an event that attracted some of the best young golfers from across the area.
His excellent 74 was the best gross score on the day and he only just missed out on the nett competition where his 65 was one adrift of winner James Jones from Llanymynech.
The club’s junior nine-hole stableford was won by Will Wadsworth with an excellent nett 22. Brothers Josh Morgan (nett 27) and Lewis Morgan (nett 30) completed the top three with the trio all regulars at Ludlow’s junior coaching sessions.
This month has also seen the latest round of the Eakin Bowl Competition which is won by the best aggregate score taken from the February, April and August Bogey competitions.
The April event produced some excellent scores, the best of which was returned by Paul Phillips, in Division Three, who finished 7-up to leave the rest of the division in his wake. Bob Burt was his nearest rival on 1-down.
Division One saw the ever-consistent Darren Humphries at the top on 3-up with Carl Wilkes just one shot behind on 2-up.
There was another impressive winning score in Division Two where Guy Jordan was 5-up ahead of Mark McColl and Simon Needham who were tied on 2-up.
The player with the best two scores from the three qualifying Bogeys will win the Eakin Bowl and there is currently a tie at the top between Humphries (+1 and +3) and McColl (+2 and +2), both on 4-up.
Phillips’ impressive April display turned around his first round 4-down to leave him at 3-up with Jordan now at 1-up.
