CHURCH Stretton survived Gobowen Celtic’s second-half fightback to reach the Shropshire Saturday Challenge Cup final.

Dean Richards and Tom Hancock had put Stretton two up but those goals were cancelled out by Ian Heathcock and Rich Morris before Neil Castle scored the winner in a 3-2 extra-time verdict.

Craig Breakwell (4), Josh Carpenter (2), James Clifford, Oliver Smith, Liam Whitbread and substitute Thomas Percival struck as Clee Hill United beat AFC Bridgnorth Reserves 10-0 in the Mercian League Premier Division Cup.

In Herefordshire One, Woofferton’s hopes of finishing second were all but ended by a 3-1 defeat at Kington Town Reserves. Andy Pugh’s penalty was not enough to spark a late fightback.

Ludlow Colts drew 1-1 at Hinton Reserves. Charlie Gould put the visitors in front following good work by Josh Partridge but that advantage was cancelled out on 53 minutes.

Boss Christian Leech said: “It was not the prettiest of games but I was really pleased with the resilience and maturity shown by all the boys in what was a very difficult game due to the weather, pitch and a good Hinton performance.”
