LUDLOW came close to a clean sweep from their weekend goal frenzy but some generous defending left the first team pondering what might have been.

The firsts displayed no shortage of flair and confidence in a 6-3 beating of King’s Heath Pickwick on Saturday with Stuart Richards claiming a hat-trick, James Pratt a brace and Lawrence Richards a strike of his own.

And while Ludlow’s attacking prowess was again on display in Sunday’s rearranged home clash with Aldridge & Walsall, they had to make do with a 3-3 draw despite leading by two goals at half-time.

Andy Richards opened the scoring with Stuart Richards on hand to finish following a slick exchange from a short corner with Jake Watts before simple errors saw the visitors level.

Ludlow were hanging on at times before Pratt stepped up to seemingly save the day but defensive frailties came to the fore once more as Aldridge & Walsall plundered a last-ditch equaliser.

Victory would have made it four wins from four across the senior sides after the men’s fathom team blitzed Newport A 13-1 thanks to goals from Mark Siddorn (3), Ben Crump (4), George Wood (4), Tom Aston and Oscar Austin.

The ladies were also victorious in the Marches League, beating Kington 6-3 with Ashleigh Gloster, Gina Lewis and Eleana Baxter (4) on the score sheet.
