CLEOBURY Mortimer’s Emily Price insists there will be no let-up after winning the Order of Merit.

The 17-year-old enjoyed a bountiful 2016 with victories in the England Women’s Stroke Play and Scottish Under-18 Championship in a run of three tournament successes over the space of a fortnight.

Price also received a call-up for the European and World Girls’ Team Championship but her desire to push on again remains undiminished.

“I knew I had the Order of Merit in September and waited a few months for the presentation but a lot of effort that went into it,” she said.

“It took hard work and a lot of ups and downs to try to compete at the highest level. Hopefully, I can do the same next season and keep pushing my boundaries.

“Each year you have to keep improving, even if it’s just in one small area because all those one-percent changes add up and can make a massive difference.

“It’s key to build more foundations, year on year, to learn more things to get better as a player and a person on and off the course.”

Price continues to mix 15 hours per week of practice with her studies at Millfield School Sixth Form.

“Even during winter you have to stay sharp,” she added. “You need to keep the training going so that you can start quickly when the new season does come back.

“You get to find out some new things about yourself and also drill new skills without feeling the pressure of competition, which is so important.

“It’s a good time to get into the gym, too. The weather is not always nice in the winter but you have a lot to aim for when March comes around.”
