LUDLOW Castle’s Phil Clarke enjoyed his night under the spotlight after being crowned British Historic Rally Championship by FIA president Jean Todt.

Co-driver Clarke lifted the trophy alongside Jason Pritchard after the pair had claimed the title on the last event of the championship in spite of a disastrous mid-season collapse in which they failed to score in three consecutive races.

It took a strong end to the campaign to arrest the slump with maximum points in a championship double-header on the Isle of Man, which set them up nicely for the final rally in which they only had to finish to take the title.

Back in Ludlow, the club is holding its annual dinner dance and awards presentation on Saturday.

Tickets for the event, taking place at Ludlow Football Club, can be booked by contacting Mark Kinsey on 07801 693664.
