TENBURY Town reclaimed the ascendancy in the Herefordshire Division One title race by becoming Saturday’s only winners.

Darren Worthington’s charges saw off Weobley 3-1 thanks to first-half goals from Alex Bright, Declan Bright and Toby Gittens.

The result was made all the more significant by second-placed Hereford City being held to a 1-1 draw by Holme Lacy Reserves.

Town now have a two-point cushion, a significantly better goal difference and a game in hand on the only team that looks capable of catching up. Third-placed Wellington trail the leaders by 17 points.

Not to be outdone, Tenbury United maintained their championship charge in the Premier Division by dominating a seven-goal match which saw three red cards.

Ryan Morris (2), Chris Patton (2), Alex Lombardi and Aaron Morris secured a 6-1 triumph but Lombardi joined Holme Lacy duo Stuart Mills and Matt Wargen in receiving their marching orders from referee Christopher Stanbury.

Chris Freddi had made sure the hosts went into half-time on level terms before United ran riot to close to eight points the gap on leaders Hinton, who were without a fixture, from one fewer game. Second-placed Bartestree won 6-0 at home to Ledbury Town.

There is a full Premier Division programme scheduled for Saturday with Orleton Colts hoping to build on a four-match winning streak which has featured 17 goals when they journey to Fownhope. Tenbury United travel to rock-bottom Pegasus Reserves.

Tenbury Town’s title credentials will be tested by the heat of a derby battle when Ludlow Colts make the short trip to Brimfield & Little Hereford Sports Ground.

Woofferton, the victims of three consecutive postponements in recent weeks, do battle at Burghill Rangers for the right to contest this season’s HFA Junior Cup final (all 2pm). The other semi-final between St Johns Howle Hill and Wellington Colts at the same time.

Rock-bottom Orleton Colts Reserves have a blank weekend.
