TENBURY Town boss Darren Worthington declared himself content with a share of the derby spoils – but Woofferton assistant Dan Gower was not so happy.

Gower pounced on defender Keiran Fish’s slip to hand the Blues a second-half lead but Dave Thomas was adjudged to have fouled Alex Bright from a corner with 15 minutes to go.

Town’s goal machine Mark Boucker made it 1-1 from the penalty spot and that was how it stayed.

Herefordshire Division One leaders Tenbury had been on a 10-match winning run in the league but Gower argued Woofferton, who hit the bar through James Clifford at 0-0, had been short changed by late drop-outs and over the Thomas incident.

“It was a tough game but Phil (Evans, manager) and I were disappointed not to have won because we deserved to,” said Gower.

“Our plans were affected by a couple of lads dropping out – one to play rugby and one to go Christmas shopping – but we signed a couple on before kick-off and it was a good game.

“We will see what happens in the new year but we are getting fed up with players letting us down. A lot of time and effort goes in from a lot of people at Woofferton. It is a shame.”

On the penalty, he added: “It was a terrible decision. There were 13 or 14 men grappling for the same ball so how he picked out Dave I’ll never know.”

But Worthington argued the case for Tenbury maintaining a run which sees them go into the festive period unbeaten since the opening day and six points clear at the summit.

“We were without a couple of players but attacked it with a positive attitude,” said Worthington.

“The absences made us adapt our style of play a little and Woofferton came out with a far stronger side than they had when we last played them.

“We created enough chances and while we could not find the net in the first half, I felt we were moving in the right direction with good spells of possession.

“After Keiran’s slip, we made a couple of changes, pressed forward and eventually our break came.

“I thought the draw was a fair result. I couldn’t complain about the way we played and I was happy with the point.

“We are on a good run and I am delighted to be six points clear at this stage. Our intention was to be floating around second or third a couple of points behind but we have done very well and hopefully, that will continue into 2017.”
