THERE was a familiar feel to the Burgage Bowls League annual presentation night with a host of last year’s champions reclaiming their crowns.

Woodbees took the Division One title with closest-rivals Buccaneers again forced to make do with the runners-up gong and Division Two was no different as Michaelmicks successfully defended their title ahead of Holloway Lot.

Ingrid Powell picked up the top ladies’ individual prize with Hazel Bradley in second, while Paul Cook was number-one man ahead of Mike Davies.

Tessa Morris and Barbara Davies again set the standard in the ladies’ pairs by bettering Margaret Leake and Heather Phelps. Colin Leake joined up with Brian Gretham to take the men’s competition with Burgess Adams and Peter Slater in second.

The prestigious Bernard James Cup, which enjoyed a popular switch to a Friday evening format for 2016, was won by Maurice Powell with Adams again in second before the gongs for the triples were handed out.

Leake and Gretham’s winning combination was joined by Pete Nosworthy for another success, albeit a narrow one from Mike, Tessa and Robert Morris. The contest was decided by a single score.

Buccaneers did have some silverware to show for their efforts, beating Teme Valley in the Knockout Cup.
