BOSS Darren Worthington remained coy on Tenbury Town’s title chances despite watching his side storm to the summit with an 8-2 walloping of Ewyas Harold Reserves.

Town made it 15 goals in two outings thanks to Mark Boucker’s hat-trick, a brace from Alex Bright and further goals by Jack Farrar, Keiran Fish and Toby Gittens.

It marked Tenbury’s seventh straight Herefordshire League Division One victory after losing to Ewyas Harold’s second string on the opening day of the season.

The win was enough to overhaul Ledbury Reserves at the summit after the previous leaders had lost 2-1 at home to Hereford City but Worthington still opted to err on the side of caution.

“We are in a good position at the moment but it is a bit early to call ourselves title contenders,” he said. “If we can put performances like this in most weeks, we will be in with a chance but it is all about concentrating on our own performances and consistency.”

Elsewhere, free-scoring Woofferton made it 27 goals in five matches with a 7-2 triumph at Fownhope Reserves.

Tom Ballard is enjoying a new lease of life having been pushed into midfield from centre-half, netting four times with Dan Gower (2) and Jack Lewis also on target.

Three of Ballard’s strikes were long distance to fire Woofferton, now unbeaten in four, to within five points of top spot, albeit from two extra matches.

Corey Whitticase rattled home a hat-trick but Orleton Colts Reserves collapsed once again, losing 10-3 at their Kington Town counterparts.

The treble made it seven goals in four outings for Whitticase in the second string so far this season but Colts remain rooted to the foot of the table without a point from nine matches.

Jake Conod, Joshua Griffiths, Luke Griffiths, Russell Jones, Ryan Newton (2), Sam Thomas (2), Stuart Davies and Daniel Stack did the damage.

Orleton’s first team fared better, holding top dogs Hinton to a 0-0 draw in the Premier Division. Tenbury United’s home clash with Pegasus Reserves was postponed.

In the Mercian League Premier Division, title-chasing Church Stretton were left kicking their heels with scheduled opponents Wrockwardine Wood unable to field a team.

Sean Milward’s goal proved in vain in Clee Hill United’s 6-1 defeat at high-flying Gobowen Celtic. Brown Clee lost 3-2 at Riverside in Division One.

Across the border, Bishop’s Castle’s Montgomeryshire League trip to Waterloo Rovers Reserves was postponed while Newcastle lost 3-0 at Hay St Mary’s Reserves.

In the Herefordshire Sunday League Northern Division, Roebuck netted through William Caswell (2), Nathan Hardisty, Stephen Swan and Simon Underhill but still lost 6-5 at White Lion.

Craven Arms fared better with a 7-2 win at Ducking School courtesy of Kevin Price’s four-goal haul, a double from Kiah Roberts and one from Nicholas Bowen.
