WOOFFERTON became the first team to take points off table-toppers Ledbury Town reserves in a thrilling 4-4 draw on Saturday.

Having shocked the same opponents 7-1 in the Herefordshire FA Junior Cup seven days previously, the visitors were rewarded with a point for their fine attacking performance at New Street.

Ledbury went in front after 10 minutes but Jack Pound levelled from Jack Lewis’s free-kick with the score remaining level at half-time. The hosts again took the lead after the interval but back came Woofferton with Chris Breakwell netting followed by a goal from Lewis.

Richard Wozencroft made it 4-2 but Ledbury were not done and scored twice in the last 10 minutes to claim a share of the spoils. Peter Jeans, Tom Skittery and Lewis Williams (2) scored for the hosts.

Woofferton’s free-scoring attack will be boosted by the return of Dan Gower and Luke Pugh for Saturday’s Herefordshire League Division One trip to Fownhope reserves (2.30).

The result enabled Tenbury Town to move within a point of top spot courtesy of a 7-0 thrashing of Orleton Colts reserves.

Mark Boucker and Toby Gittens each fired in hat-tricks for Town with Macauley Stone also on the score sheet in what was an eighth straight league defeat for Orleton’s rock-bottom second string.

Saturday provides some interesting tussles at the summit with Tenbury hosting fourth-placed Ewyas Harold Reserves, their only conquerors in the league so far this season, and Ledbury welcoming third-placed Hereford City (both 2.30).

Elsewhere, the return of Simon Bull and Adrian Marsh and a much-improved performance was not enough for Ludlow Colts to return to winning ways.

Christian Leech’s men were two down when City’s keeper pushed Scott Guilbert’s corner into his own net and despite a late flurry, which included a strong penalty claim from Dan Crowther, Colts were defeated 2-1.
