CLEOBURY Mortimer’s golden boy Jack Severn continued his imperious year with victory in the Worcestershire Boys’ Matchplay.

The 15-year-old beat Matt Osborn four-and-three in the under-18 event at his home course, emerging from a field of 16 qualifiers to take the top prize.

Having won his first match four-and-two, Severn beat Joe Price four-and-three and although there was a delay for fog on the Wednesday morning, overcame Rhys Hopkins seven-and-six.

And having claimed the silverware without losing a hole on the final day, Cleobury professional David Pain predicted Severn would embark on an era of dominance in local youth circles.

“Jack still has three years left in the county under-18's set-up and having won this already, he could well be set to dominate over the coming years,” said Pain.

Severn’s handicap has reduced dramatically over the course of 2016 and currently stands at an impressive 1.5.

At Ludlow Golf Club, Harry Lines and Dave Fish were in inspired form at the Gent Captain & Vice-Captain Versus the Club competition.

In the pairs’ aggregate Stableford, Lines played off one and shot a gross seven-under (63) for 44 points.

Fish also played off a handicap of one and was not far behind his partner on two-under (68) to secure 39 in his own right.

The total of 83 saw them run out comfortable winners, seven clear of nearest rivals Wayne Gardner and Mark Brabazon (76). Andy Dixon and Alan Crump were three shots further back in third. Gent captain John Harris and vice-captain David Sanders scored a respectable 71 and finished sixth.

Lines and Fish then carried on their fine form as Ludlow’s Hargrove Trophy A Team won their home match against Shrewsbury B 3-0.

The deadly duo won their match by 13 holes and another impressive display from Andy Ferriday and George Watton saw the lead extended by a further eight.

The clean sweep was secured when team captain Daz Humphries and his partner Ross Magill won the last match by two.
