GEORGE Watton recovered from a nightmare start to sail away with Ludlow Golf Club’s October Stableford.

Watton failed to score on the first hole but followed up with six gross birdies over the next eight to register 24 points, a tally he added 20 to on the back nine.

It was enough to see off the challenge of Nick Giles on 40 and take the Division One prize.

Division Two was won by Guy Jordan on 41 points, four shots clear of runners-up Mark Giles and Graham Spencer. Richard Cox’s score of 43 was enough to win Division Three some six shots clear of closest rival Michael Oliver.

John Phillips, Dave Morris, Clive Garbett and Pat Brittain set a stellar standard in the Senior’s Three Club and Putter Am-Am.

A score of 92 would have been enough to take the Senior’s Am-Am, an event played with full sets, the previous week. The winning quartet finished four clear of Geoff Williams, Geoff Sharrad, Terry Fellows and Roger Smart.

Sapey Golf Club recently hosted the inaugural Tenbury United Youth Football Club Golf Day, raising £1,200.

The funds will help to run the nine youth teams, with age groups ranging from five to 16 years, and coaching sessions for 30 children aged between four and six.

Tenbury chairman Paul Staples said: “The annual fee per child paid by parents unfortunately does not cover our growing costs so we needed to organise some fundraising events.

“The golf day was a perfect opportunity. We had fantastic support from local companies that helped sponsor the event and parents who donated raffle prizes.

“To raise this amount of money will go a long way towards helping the club move forward so we want to thank everyone who supported the day.”

The club is looking to recruit more coaches and assistants for its youth section. Interested parties should email: tenburyunitedyouth@gmail.com
