BOSS Darren Worthington lavished praise on his Tenbury Town charges for finding the resolute edge to claim the derby bragging rights against Woofferton.

Unstoppable hitman Mark Boucker notched another brace, his 11th goal in six outings this campaign, to decide the destiny of the points at Brimfield & Little Hereford Sports Ground on Saturday.

The 2-0 success saw Tenbury climb to third in Herefordshire League Division One and to within three points of the summit.

But having made a habit of outscoring rather than shackling opponents so far this season, Worthington was delighted to see his men soak up spells of pressure to keep their first clean sheet in a high-intensity encounter.

“Like most derby games, it was on a knife edge at times but the players stuck to the task and held their positions really well. It was a fantastic effort all round,” he said.

“We got the early goal and went on to create a few chances but to be fair to Woofferton, they tested us at different times.

“In the second half we were so on top of the game, they couldn’t break us down and we caught them on the counter attack.

“We have started the season quite well. We rightly lost the first game but since then, the lads have been on top of it and playing some good football.

“There is a great togetherness among the players and with a couple of new, young lads coming into the side, everyone is working hard and earning their place.

“Everyone seems happy at the moment and that breeds confidence.”

Finding a different way to win left the former coach and summer appointment in bullish mood but Worthington refused to get carried away by talk of a title tilt, preferring to focus on one match at a time.

“It is a bit early to say at the moment,” he added when asked about a push for honours. “We have a few out with injury and when we get them back, we will have a better idea.

“I’m not going to say we will do this or that because all of that talk is a bit optimistic for now. You could have a few players out at different stages of the season and things can turn very quickly.

“But if we can keep everyone fit and playing like they have been, I see no reason why we cannot challenge.”

Worthington anticipates naming an unchanged squad for Saturday’s trip to Kington Town reserves (2.30pm).

“We might have one or two to add to the squad but in the main, I’d expect it to be a similar line up,” he added.”
