BROWN Clee’s James Byatt and Nathan Giles of Craven Arms Town once again made a difference for their respective sides in the Mercian League Division One on Saturday.

Byatt’s brace took his tally for the season to 11 from eight matches as Brown Clee secured a 3-1 home victory against Coven United. Andrew Davies was also on target for the hosts who secured a sixth league win from eight outings.

Giles made it seven from seven by netting in his side’s 3-3 draw at FC Oswestry Town reserves. Aaron Hodge and Dale Hodge were the other goal scorers in a keenly-contested clash.

In the Premier Division, Sean Gough has four from four after scoring in Church Stretton’s 3-1 win at Shifnal United 97.

Matt Newton and Dan Perry were the other scorers as fifth-placed Stretton stayed within touching distance of the summit, five points off the top with two games in hand.

The match of the day was at Clee Hill United who edged an 11-goal thriller against Gobowen Celtic 6-5. Steve Preece, Oliver Smith, Adam Warren (2) and Liam Whitbread (2) found the net.

Orleton Colts went some way towards avenging their 10-goal cup mauling at Hereford Lads Club by getting the better of their reserves in the Herefordshire League.

A double from Nathan Hardisty and Ally Carvell’s strike was enough to see Colts through 3-2 seven days after their horror show on the same ground despite substitute Michael Shillcock’s red card.

Elsewhere in the Premier Division, Tenbury United maintained their strong start to the campaign with a fourth win in five matches at home to Holme Lacy.

Mike Foster, Simon Newhill and Dale Withers all netted as United came back from a half-time deficit to win 3-2 at Palmer’s Meadow.

There was a shock in Division One as high-flying Woofferton were crushed 4-0 at home to Wellington Colts. Gareth George, Jake Mecke (2) and substitute Tom Griffiths did the damage.

Tenbury Town emerged victorious from a nine-goal thriller, securing a 6-3 success at Weobley. A brace from Mark Boucker and efforts from Alex Bright, Keiran Fish, Harry Moran and substitute Henri Harvey-Smith sealed victory.

William McNinch and Ashley Smith were the goalscorers as Ludlow Colts played out a 3-3 draw at Holme Lacy reserves but there was no respite for struggling Orleton Colts reserves, who made it four defeats from four with a 5-1 home reverse against their Ewyas Harold counterparts.

On Saturday, Clee Hill United welcome FC Hodnet and Church Stretton head to Prees in the Mercian League Premier Division.

In Division One, Brown Clee host early title challengers Shrewsbury Juniors, while Craven Arms Town take on an entirely different challenge in welcoming AFC Broseley, the team that has lost 10 out of 10 league matches to date (all 3pm).

Orleton Colts host Pegasus reserves in Herefordshire’s top flight with Tenbury United welcoming Ledbury.

Ludlow Castle are at home to Kington Town Reserves in Division One, Tenbury Town host a derby date with Woofferton and Orleton Reserves travel to Weobley (all 2.30pm).
