BOSS Phil Evans predicted rookie Will Prince could help Woofferton reign supreme this season and beyond after his eye-catching derby cameo.

The teenage winger wreaked havoc on the right as Woofferton walloped Ludlow Colts 4-0 on Saturday to claim the local bragging rights.

Newcomer Prince, drafted in this season, impressed sufficiently in training to be given a shot from the bench with an opportunity in the starting XI now on the horizon.

Evans told the Advertiser: “Will’s commitment is outstanding and alongside the skill he has, we are really excited about his prospects for the future.

“He came in this season and did well in training so I gave him the chance to have an impact and he has taken it.

“On Saturday, he put in some beautiful crosses and had someone been there to get on the end of them, we would have had a couple more goals.

“He is very close to getting into the first team now. His attitude is spot on, he wants to learn and the senior players are more than willing to help and encourage him. He seems to be thriving on it.”

Woofferton dominated possession in the first half but had only Luke Pugh’s goal to show for it at the interval.

Simon Bradley, who teed up Pugh’s strike, was running the show but the Blues benefited from a slice of fortune for their second goal.

Former Woofferton player Simon Bull flicked into his own net and with Ludlow chasing the game, substitutes Marian Jusko and Dan Gower wrapped up a comfortable success in final 20 minutes.

“Simon Bradley and Jack Pound had excellent games in the middle,” added Evans. “They didn’t put a foot wrong and the overall performance was really pleasing.

“People are talking about how well the team has been doing and that is really nice. They are pleased for us, especially after thinking the team might go under at the end of last season.

“At one point, people might have thought there wouldn’t be a manager but we have got together, brought in some new players and cheered everyone up a bit.

“The lads deserve all the credit. There is a buzz about the group, they are working hard in training and doing what we ask of them on the pitch. Their discipline is excellent.

“Everyone fights for and encourages each other. Morale is really high and we have made a great start so hopefully, things can only get better.”

The influential Richard Wozencroft is set to return for Saturday’s Herefordshire Junior Cup clash at Shobdon (2pm).
