HEREFORD FC hotshot John Mills says there was no chance anyone was going to take the ball of him as he lined up take a 94th minute penalty against Sutton Coldfield Town in second qualifying round of the FA Cup.

Mills, who missed a spot kick against Winchester City in his previous game, slotted the ball past Sutton keeper James Wren to complete a dramatic 3-2 win.

"I'm confident I can score goals and none of the boys took it off me," said Mills.

"There were a couple of players in training on Thursday saying that they were going to have one, but I got the ball first and I wasn't going to let anyone else have it."

Sutton Coldfield equalised in the 86th minute through a fine Phil Trainer header before Mills' heroics.

"You can't beat winning in the last minute, but it goes down to the boys' character," added Mills.

"We missed chances, but we'll keep going and in the end, we got our rewards."

Mills admitted Sutton Coldfield provided a different test to the Bulls due to their style of play.

"They were in your face, the tempo was real high and they don't let you have any time," he said.

"So it did take us 10 to 15 minutes to adjust to that, but I thought we coped very well.

"We conceded a sloppy goal right from the goal kick, but we scored literally three or four minutes after.

"Our heads never go down."

Hereford manager Pete Beadle said he was still calm on the bench going into the final few minutes.

"We should have had the game wrapped up long before we finally got the winner but it was always nice to get it and to get it late on when you think that's the game done and dusted," said Beadle.

The Bulls boss admitted he didn't see the penalty incident, but his players were convinced a home defender handled the ball.

"They said that John [Mills] got a toe to it, it hits the lad's knee and if it hadn't have hit his hand it would have gone in," said Beadle.

"The referee only had one decision to make in whether it was deliberate or a complete accident but if stops it going in then obviously he's got to give it."

Sutton Coldfield hit the crossbar in the first minute and Beadle admitted his side need to stop gifting opponents early chances.

"I don't know what it is with us at the minute – we get the kick off but they get the first chance within the first couple of minutes," said Beadle.

"After that they then had the goal, which we're disappointed with, but we also had numerous chances ourselves and I was really pleased we got the goal when we did just before half time."

Sutton Coldfield opened the scoring in the 39th minute when a long punt forward from Wren found Ryan Edmunds, who dinked the ball over Alex Harris in the Hereford goal.

The Bulls equalised three minutes later through Mills before Mike Symons put them ahead two minutes into the second half.

Hereford had numerous chances to put the game to bed and it seemed a replay was on the cards when Trainer headed home with only four minutes remaining.

But referee Scott Simpson awarded Hereford a penalty deep into stoppage time and Mills secured the win.
