JOINT-boss Aaron Morris insisted Tenbury United’s weekend "travesty" would not taint his upcoming wedding – even if he was fuming at the time.

United let slip an early lead in Saturday’s 2-1 home loss to table-topping Westfields Reserves, a match which the manager saw as a missed opportunity.

Ryan Morris headed home from a corner but visiting hitman James Holland levelled shortly before half-time.

The match seemed destined for a draw but a speculative effort from substitute Gareth Williams-Howells found the net late on to secure the spoils for Westfields.

It left Morris with mixed emotions but all of those will be forgotten when his team-mates take in Saturday’s match of the day at the altar.

“I was a bit annoyed on Saturday night but you have to try to put it to bed after that,” said Morris.

“We play to enjoy it and compete at this level for a reason. No one likes to lose and I am the worst loser out there but you have to take it on the chin sometimes.

“It was just made so much more disappointing because we didn’t deserve it. Over the course of the game, we were worthy of a draw.

“We were better in the first half and they were on top in the second but the match was played out at a friendly pace at times, it was like we were going through the motions.

“Had we found that extra 10 per cent, we would have been far better off and I think that was the most frustrating part.

“I expected Westfields to be a lot better than they were and how we came away from that game with nothing was a bit of a travesty.

“In the first half, we had enough chances to put them to bed and we should have done. You know when that happens that it will probably bite you on the backside.

“But there were positives to take. There were some good performances despite having four or five players missing.

“It is early days and hopefully we can kick on in the weeks to come.”

And the setback has not dented Morris’s ambitions for last season’s runners-up.

“My aim is to win the league,” he added. “With the squad we have and the new players we have signed, we shouldn’t be looking at anything else.

“Other teams in the league have strengthened. Last season there was us, Wellington Reserves and Ewyas Harold who were streets ahead of the rest but this time, it will be a lot closer.

“There is more chance of getting beaten by the so-called lesser sides so it is just a case of winning your games and hoping that others drop points.”
