CAPTAIN Will Sparrow reckons revenge against the Shropshire League’s leading lights could be the catalyst for Ludlow sustaining a title tilt in 2017.

Sparrow’s men were left kicking their heels as an opportunity to push into the top three was hampered by Saturday’s clash at home to Bomere Heath being washed out.

But while the weather has been a constant source of frustration, Sparrow believes his boys can get the better of three teams who beat them earlier this season during the run-in.

A trip to second-placed Wem is next on the horizon with home clashes against Broseley and runaway leaders Sentinel still to come.

“We’ve missed out on two more matches than the other sides,” lamented Sparrow.

“We could still get second but realistically, we would have to win at Wem on Saturday. Along with our other games, this should be seen as a chance to rectify the mistakes we made first time around.

“The target is to win all four and hopefully, that will be enough to finish in the top three at least.

“Now, it is about us knowing we can compete with the likes of Sentinel and Wem going into next season.

“If you look at the past five years, we have always been there or thereabouts. I think we are three players short of a competitive side at the sharp end but we are determined to give it a good go and want to start building that momentum now.”

Sparrow’s fleet will be depleted at Wem with Louis Watkins, Gareth Parker and Glen Whittaker all unavailable.
