BISHOP’S Castle’s last-wicket pair survived to deny Shrewsbury 3rds victory at the Manor Ground.

Chasing 202 in their Shropshire County League Division Two clash they came up 12 runs short but Christopher Irving (0) and George Raymond (1) hung on.

Skipper Tom Moulder had given them hope of the win with 65 before he fell to Jack Garmson while wicketkeeper-batsman Jonathan Price made 27.

But after they had gone Lawrence Fletcher threatened to take the game Shrewsbury’s way with 3-28.

Earlier Moulder had won the toss and asked the visitors to bat first, but the decision looked immediately to be backfiring as his opposite number Edward Griggs made 51 and received good support from the top four, especially Henry Bedford’s 49.

There were also contributions down the order with Danny Foulkes making 26.

Richard Powell (3-53) and Paul Moulder (3-34) helped keep Shrewsbury within striking distance.

A disappointing afternoon for Church Stretton as they lost by nine wickets at Wheaton Aston.

Asked to bat first, Andrew Chapman made 22, Rob Whittall 27 and Jonathan Wood an unbeaten 24 but they were shot out for just 114 . William Curtiss (37) and Jason Corr (47) then saw the hosts safely home in the 35th over.

In Division Three, Corvedale held on by the skin of their teeth at Much Wenlock.

The home side posted 223-8 from their 40 overs with Kelvin Sargent (3-20) denying Scott Furber a century when he bowled him for 99.

It proved to be well beyond the visitors who struggled to 107-9 from their 40 overs with Sargent top scoring with 14.

In the Worcestershire League, Cleobury Mortimer won a high-scoring game at Netherton.

Winning the toss and batting first they took full advantage as Sam Evans made 59 at the top of the order.

But it was a fine 120 from skipper Ben Griffiths which provided the bones around which they grew to 266-8.

But runs were flowing for both sides and Netherton made a real fist of it before eventually being bowled out for 252 off the penultimate ball. In fact openers Russell Oseland (71) the home captain, and Matthew Lowe (95) at one stage threatened to win the game on their own.

But in the end they had no answer to Kieran Hall’s 6-16 while Ed Kemp took the all-important final wicket Jiteshkumar Patel.

Knighton on Teme beat Luctonians in Division Tow of the Marches League knocking off the hosts 140 all out for the loss of just four wickets.
