AFTER a foggy start it was take-off time for Ludlow Castle Motor Club member Jack Bowen at the Brawdy Stages Rally.

Bowen teamed up with Kington’s Trevor Morgan to tackle the event, in Trevor’s Darrian T90 GTR+.

The event, organised by Pembrokeshire Motor Club, consisted of six stages covering 62 miles all set out on the tarmac of the Brawdy Airfield with Morgan and Bowen seeded at number 12 out of the 56 starters.

Thick fog enveloped the airfield for the morning stages making it difficult for the drivers to commit to the faster corners and Morgan and Bowen decided that a steady approach in the tricky conditions was the best option.

After three stages the pair were lying towards the lower end of the top 20.

Following a service break, conditions improved a little and Morgan began to push harder encouraged by Bowen trying to obtain as much information as he could from the maps. They were rewarded with a 16th and 14th place on stages four and five leaving them lying in 15th overall and second in their class going into the final stage.

With confidence growing, they set a top 10 stage time and were fastest in their class by 11 seconds seeing them rise to finish 12th overall maintaining their class position and moving to within four seconds of the class leaders.

The next meeting of Ludlow Castle Motor Club will be held on Wednesday, August 10, starting at 8pm at the Ludlow Brewing Company Ltd. All are welcome.
