A SCORE of 38 points was enough for Nick Apperley and Michelle Mann to win the Ron Jones Salvers at Ludlow Golf Club.

They finished one point ahead of runners-up John and Pat Bown in the mixed foursomes event.

Kevin Bowen won Division Two of the July Medal with strong winds making conditions difficult.

Bowen was the only player to break par with a nett 68. He finished two clear of runner-up Andrew Macwhirter. Will Norton got the better of Eddie Rowland in Division One, by virtue of a better back nine after both players scored level par 70.

Peter Reeves topped Division Three with a 72 nett, one shot clear of Jeff Jones in second place.

In the Handicap League, the men’s team played Bridgnorth Golf Club in the first round of the quarter final on Sunday. Both teams won three matches and will go into the second leg at Bridgnorth this weekend all square.

Stuart Plested produced some fine form as he came out on top to win the best nett prize at the County Seniors Championship at Oswestry.

Nigel Chesters won the championship with a gross score of 74.

Tara Rodenhurst competed with the best when she played in her first English Women’s Amateur Championship over three days at West Lancashire Golf Club.

She did herself and Ludlow Golf Club proud, playing some excellent golf to make the cut in the national championship and will be off to America to start a golf scholarship later this year.

The annual Ladies' midsummer madness competition, also affectionately known as midsummer murder, was held on Friday, June 24. Started in 2002 it is played on a weekday as closely as possible to the longest day so, on a beautiful early morning, ten brave ladies teed off from 6.30am.

Winner and keeper of the trophy for the second year running was Val Jackman with 31 points.

Cleobury Mortimer GC’s ladies' club championship was played as a 27-hole competition over all three nine-hole courses.

Fifteen ladies took part in an enjoyable, if, on occasions, challenging day.

The winner of the nett prize with a nett score of 111 was Juliet Dugdale whose handicap was cut by one shot as a result. Wendy Duncan was runner up on countback with nett 116. The winner of the gross prize with a gross score of 138 was Nina Ford, this year’s lady captain. Julie Currie was runner up with 139.
