LITHUANIAN Arvydas Trizno is standing between Craig Morris and a shot at the vacant Midlands Area Welterweight title

The two go head-to-head on the Black Country Boxing’s Summer Scorcher show at Walsall Town Hall on Saturday, July 9.

Ludlow’s first professional boxer for 75 years defeated William Warburton in his home town en route to winning the British Challenge Welterweight strap.

But Morris is already keen for more titles.

“I am hoping to get a Midlands shot after this fight,” he told www.uko-boxing.com. “The Midlands (welterweight title) has become vacant so I want a shot at that.

“That would be massive for me and I am not looking past this fight but if I can win this then I can put myself in a good position for the title and it would be a massive step for me.

“I have to put myself in a good position in this fight and make sure I perform to get my shot at the title. I don’t feel any pressure about it though. I am fully-focused on Trizno, so I am not feeling any pressure of what might happen after that.

“I always said that I would like to go for the Midlands and then I would love it if I could win an English Title or something like that. Anything beyond that would be fantastic. I am just in boxing to go as far as I can.”

The 24-year-old is still unbeaten in five fights since turning professional and he has managed to stop his two previous foreign opponents at the Town Hall at Walsall.

But Morris is adamant he isn’t looking past the well-travelled Trizno.

“Trizno will be a tough opponent. I have seen a couple of little clips of him and I know he is quite tough and game. He won’t just roll over and he throws his right hand in a fair bit. I have left my trainer to study him and work on what we will have to do so I trust my trainer and manager fully.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better start really. I have stopped two of my opponents and have boxed William Warburton twice, one for the challenge title, and both of them have been really hard fights.

“Warburton beat Jason Welborn not so long ago which just proves how good he is. I had massive support in my last fight in Ludlow too so it has been great and I am on my way up. I want to keep climbing the ladder. I want to thank FlowFit for their ongoing support, my brother at Morris Autos.

“I have had plenty of time to prepare in the build-up to this fight so I have been training hard to get in the best shape I can. I have got lots of road work in early on and it is all coming together in these last two weeks like it always does. I have picked up sparring and have dropped my weight a bit so I am ready to go.

“I am looking forward to fighting close to home but I don’t mind where I fight. I always take crowds with me and when you get in the ring there is only the two of you in there anyway. It is a good venue at Walsall and the fans enjoy coming over for the night life as well so it should be a great show. There are plenty of good lads on show it should be a quality night of boxing.”
