A BRILLIANT unbeaten century from captain Matthew James helped Knighton-on-Teme to a winning draw against Builth Wells 2nd in Division Two of the Marches League.

But the visitors were also indebted to bowler Jack Kitchen who took out Builth’s top order to deny them a chance of victory.

Put into bat, James hit 124 not out as his side posted 223-4 from their 45 overs. Fellow opener Sam Siviter went for five with Richard Grosvenor (three) also failing with the bat.

But James was given decent support from Kitchen before he was trapped lbw for 35 and Mark Evans who contributed a useful 34. Tim Gasch (one not out) was there with his skipper at the close.

Kitchen then starred with the ball, taking 4-28 from his 12 overs as Builth were restricted to 157-7. Greg Powell returned 2-39, Sam Siviter also claimed a wicket while Dave Chance’s eight overs went for a paltry 13 runs.

The winning draw lifted Knighton above Luctonians and into second place behind unbeaten leaders Brockhampton. Knighton entertain Luctonains on Saturday.
