Ludlow Castle Motor Club members have had a busy few weeks with several taking part in the Plains Rally – a-45 mile event based in Welshpool and using the Dyfi Forest Complex.

Simon Rogers was out in his Mitsubishi Evo6 hoping for his run of bad luck to end and after a steady but uneventful outing he finished 28th overall.

Welsh Championship regulars Tim Cains and Richard May guided their newly-liveried J&S Handling Peugeot 309 to 45th overall and 6th in class.

Also chasing Welsh points were Colin and Martin Griffiths in their BMW. They damaged a shock absorber on the second stage and lost their intercom on the next but finished 62nd overall and second in class which they now in the Championship.

Elsewhere, Dorrington-based Roger Titley wheeled out his BMW 2.8 Saloon for the Corinium Stgaes. Based at Down Ampney Airstrip, near Cheltenham, Titley and co-driver Chris Page climbed to 11th overall before a snow storm and noisy gearbox saw them finish in 14th overall and first in class. The pair also travelled to Wigan to take part in the Cetus Stages held at the Six Sisters Race Circuit, they finished 23 overall and 8th in class.

Orleton husband and wife John and Marylou Worthing finished 13th in the Vintage Sun Run in their 1954 Triumph TR2. The rally started in the Aube region of France and finished near Grenoble.

John wasn’t quite so successful on his next outing, the Dixies Challenge on Epynnt in Mid Wales. Out in his Ford Escort Mexico with co-driver John Cadwallader, a failing alternator resulted in a flat battery putting them out of the rally after just one stage.

There will not be a meeting at the Ludlow Brewery in June, with the club holding an Autotest on Wednesday, June 8. Contact Mark Kinsey on 07801 693664 for details.
