LUDLOW Golf Club’s Ollie Lewis and George Watton and Darren Humphries and Harry Lines shot gross 72s to be at the top of the leaderboard at the end of the opening round of the Jeffrey Clee Salver.

They held a one shot lead from last year’s captain Andy Dixon and his Shrewsbury partner Sean McCarthy.

Strong wind and fast greens made scoring difficult in the second round though and a fantastic afternoon score of level par 70 was enough to secure first place for Tom King (Llanymynech) and Garath Evans with a total score of 145.

Lewis and Watton finished two shots back on 147 and won the best nett score of the competition, one ahead of Dixon and McCarthy.

Mathew Evans and his partner recorded an excellent 47 points to win the betterball in Sunday’s Men’s Invitation. Nigel Griffiths and Nigel Scott (Kington) finished with the best gross score of 35 points.

Bill Billson’s score of 36 points was enough for top spot in Ludlow’s latest Seniors roll-up and Salver Q/R. He won by a single shot from Andy Watters, with Trevor Gray and Bryan Jones a further two shots back.

And Ludlow Golf Club’s Janet Roberts and Heather Sanders have presented a cheque for £1,330 to Wales Air Ambulance following last year’s fundraising.

[BLOB] Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club’s latest Invitation Texas has been won by Adam Cook, Ash Cook, Matt Fairman and Lewis Hodges. The in-form fourball took advantage of the quick greens and lush fairways to score a nett 57.5 to take top spot.

Youngsters Josh Rowbotham, Harry King, Alex Barnes and Louie Edwards birdied two of the last three holes to leave them with a nett score of 60 which was enough for second place.

On May 18, the Ladies Coronation Foursomes will be held at Ludlow GC with the Ladies Stableford held on May 25.
