LOCAL ranger Alan Reid took the honours in round two of the Eakin Bowl at Ludlow Golf Club.

He finished with the best score of the day, plus six, to win Division 3 by six holes from runner-up Tony Watton.

In a three-way tie on plus two, Steve Round won Division 1 thanks to his back-nine score of plus one. George Watton and Liam Magill also finished on plus two.

Division 2 was also settled on a back-nine countback. John Holliday and Steve Cox both finished on plus four with Holliday’s superior back nine of plus three securing the win.

*JOHN Williams from Aberdovey found the windy conditions to his liking in the Seniors Scratch Open. He shot an excellent gross 75 to win by four shots from Ludlow’s Rex Tudor-Hughes. Williams was presented with the Gordon Reynolds Trophy by senior captain Dave Hughes. Tris Clare (Ludlow) shot an 82 gross to win the Over-70s section.

Tony Hall from St Giles was the winner of the net competition with a score of 71. Ludlow’s Alan Hunt finished second with 75. Another Ludlow member, Geoff Rose, won the Over-70s net with a score of 75.

*JANET Roberts, Ludlow Golf Club’s lady captain in 2015, chose the Wales Air Ambulance as the charity of the year.

The club raised £1,330 by holding a charity golf day and raffle and all the ladies have regularly contributed weekly to the fund by saving their lose change.

Roberts said they chose the Wales Air Ambulance as she lives in Knighton and regularly sees the Wales Air Ambulance landing near her home when attending patients.

She praised the ladies for the efforts and had particular praise for Heather Sanders, who organised the raffles.

*LEE Glasby came out on top in Cleobury Mortimer GC’s latest double roll-up.

Four scores of 37 topped the leaderboard on Saturday, with siblings Ash (on countback) and Adam Cook first and second ahead of Rob Winnall and Colin Hopewell.

But Glasby knocked them down into second and third place on Sunday, securing his fifth straight win with a solid 41.

Cleobury Director of Golf Dave Pain said: “Lee has been playing some great golf and he is on a roll. It’s great to see his handicap tumbling.”
