DAN Ridley and Duncan Palmer bagged their first goals of the season for Tenbury United, helping their side to a convincing 5-2 win at Pegasus Reserves in the Premier Division of the Herefordshire League.

And joint manager Aaron Morris admits their place on the scoresheet could cause him a few headaches when the two sides meet again in the Senior Cup final on May 7.

“We were low on numbers again which is strange as you’d think players would be looking to book their place in the final,” Morris said.

“We travelled with just 13 and had to move things around a bit.

“Dan is usually our left-back but we played him central midfield and he had a really good game scoring two goals.

“Duncan signed on at the start of the season as cover and we played him up top in his first game and he scored twice as well with Ryan Morris scoring the other.

“It makes it difficult now because, for the cup final, you are going to look to those players who have turned up week in, week out.”

Saturday’s victory wrapped up second place for United with one game to play.

Woofferton got their Division One title challenge back on track with a 2-1 win at home to Kingstone Harriers.

But they did it the hard way against the league’s basement club, coming from behind with two goals from Si Bradley in the final 25 minutes.

The win moves Woofferton back up to second place, eight points behind leaders Holme Lacy with two games in hand.

Elsewhere in the division, a Tom Pitt double wasn’t enough to stop Tenbury Town going down 3-2 at home to Bromyard while Orleton Colts Reserves were edged out 5-4 at Wellington Colts, Connor Bufton (two), Michael Shilock and Donovan Harris on target for the visitors.

Newcastle completed a league double over Mid Wales League South visitors Talgarth Town following their 3-2 victory, the goals coming from Simon Oakley, Sam Morgan and substitute Jack Kenett. But they also needed keeper Gary Davies to pull off a number of fine saves as Talgarth staged a late fightback.

The Newcastle Cup final takes place on Sunday (3pm ko) when holders Orleton meet Bishops Castle.

In the Sportsjam Regional League, Church Stretton beat FC Hodnet 1-0 in the Premier Division while two goals from Craig Breakwell and one from manager Wayne Whitbread handed Clee Hill United a 3-2 win over Bishops Castle Town to secure their place in the finals of the Spring Cup.

[blob]Tenbury High School’s head boy Rory Huntbach has signed for Hereford FC. The 16-year-old, who has been playing for AFC Ludlow this season, is one of two youngsters from the UITC youth set-up to put pen to paper.

Hereford boss Peter Beadle said: “We’ve had the two lads training with the first team in recent weeks and they’ve proved they have great potential. Both have shown the willingness to take a step up and we believe both will become important players for the club.”
