HEREFORD schoolboy Jack Bowen flew the flag for Ludlow Castle Motor Club at the Get it Sideways Stages held on an old airfield in Down Ampney, Gloucestershire.

The 15-year-old co-driver partnered Lee Griffths to a class win in their Peugeot 106 and fifth overall.

Club vice-chairman James Hamer, from Leysters, was co-driving for Ed Robinson in a Citroen C2 and they recovered from some morning encounters with the cones to 11th overall and second in class.

Roger Titley, from Dorrington, didn’t fare so well in his 2.8 litre BMW 323. He was lying 20th following a spin and had to retire due to damaged suspension.

The previous week, crews had headed to the Dyfi Forest in Mid Wales to take part in Rally North Wales, the second round of the Mintex British Historic Rally Championship.

And the event saw co-driver Phil Clarke and Builth Wells-based driver Jason Pritchard tame the treacherous wet and muddy forest tracks to claim first place ahead of championship rivals Nick Elliot/Dave Price.

Fellow club members Joe Price and Chris Brooks were also among the leaders in their MkII Ford Escort only to overshoot a hairpin late in the day to become beached on a bank which lost them three minutes and they ended up tenth overall and second in class.

Corfton’s Gary Smith brought out his MkI Escort and, with new co-driver Johnnie Evans, finished 13th and second in class while Simon Webster and Jez Rogers finished 17th overall and seventh in class in their MkII Escort.

Also in action over a shorter five stages were Tim Cains/Richard May in a Peugeot 309 and Colin Griffiths/Martin Griffiths in a BMW Compact. The former finished 14th and the Griffiths’ BMW 17th overall.
