LUDLOW RFC maintained their title push at the top of Midlands Three West (North) thanks to an emphatic 66-7 victory over Willenhall – the second time the high-fliers had chalked up 60+ points against their Black Country opponents.

Full-back Will Sparrow and scrum-half Mark Williams led the way but head coach Norman Stalker said the winning margin was down to an excellent team display.

“They are the two who tend to make the headlines but there were some top performances all over the park,” he said. “Inside centre Mike Jones is having a fantastic season and has been brilliant in defence but just hasn’t been on the scoresheet much.

“We have pace all through the side and it says it all when your tighthead prop Sam Wilkes gets the ball on halfway and runs all the way to the line to score a try.

“I feel a little for Willenhall because we did it to them at their place as well.”

Ludlow head to Newcastle on Saturday (ko 2.15pm) with Stalker hoping his side can put on a repeat performance particularly after they beat the Staffordshire side 45-12 back in October.

“We will go there believing we can win the game,” the coach said. “We worked out that we had 13 players missing last week through injury or being unavailable. If that had happened last season we’d have struggled to field a team so it just shows how far we have come as a club.”
