TENBURY United joint manager Aaron Morris is hoping his side will be in action on Saturday, bringing an end to a miserable six weeks of postponements.

The Herefordshire League Premier outfit are due to travel to Fownhope in the Herefordshire Charity Bowl (ko 1.30) after Saturday’s match at home to Orleton Colts was the latest to fall victim to the weather.

Morris said: “I went down to the ground on Saturday and thought it looked OK. There was no standing water but after walking on it for ten minutes you could see our footsteps left in the mud so I can’t imagine how bad it would have been with 23 people running on it for 90 minutes.

“It will be good to get a game on but you have to look at the long-term – you don’t want to wreck the pitch for the rest of the season just for one game.

“We are keeping fit with a session on the artificial turf on a Monday but if this week’s game is called off then we’ll see if we can arrange a friendly at Ludlow’s ground if it’s available.”

Division One side Tenbury Town were one of the few sides to play on Saturday but went down 4-2 at league leaders Sinkums.

And they face another tough test this weekend when they entertain second-placed Woofferton – weather permitting.

The only other local side in action at the weekend was Sportsjam Mercian Division One side Clee Hill Utd who lost 5-2 at leaders Stoke Heath, Liam Whitbread and Stevie Preece with the goals.

On Saturday, Clee Hill head to Gobowen Celtic for a league game (ko 2.00).

Newcastle United will be hoping it is sixth time lucky when they head to St Harmon in the Watson Financial Mid Wales League South (ko 2.00). They have not played since the end of November – when they drew 2-2 at home to St Harmon.
