TOM Pain kept up a family tradition in winning Cleobury Mortimer’s rejuvenated 36-hole Scratch Knockout event.

He followed brothers Dave and Sam in winning the trophy when he beat Worcestershire county star Jack Severn in the final.

A birdie on hole six and another on 18 had Pain three ahead at the halfway stage. He then followed with four more birdies on Foxes to see out the match on the final nine holes.

Pain said: “I’d like to congratulate Jack on a great match. Between us we had nine birdies in 29 holes. It is very pleasing to get my name on the trophy next to my brothers and I look forward to defending the trophy in 2016.”

*CLEOBURY’S Men’s Singles Knockout final saw Dave Smith defeat Rich Smith with a 5 and 4 victory. He had already lost narrowly in the Doubles Knockout final and he was determined not to finish second again.

*ENVILLE members John Thompson and Terry Wood won Ludlow GC’s first Winter Betterball with 43 points.

The best-placed Ludlow pair were Dave Simpson and Bill Shilton, who were fifth with 40 points.
