TROPHY-CHASING Tenbury Town are just one game away from reaching the final of the HFA Junior Cup for the third successive season.

The in-form Herefordshire League First Division outfit booked their place in the semi-finals with a 6-0 dismissal of previously unbeaten Division Two visitors Ledbury Town Reserves.

Ledbury, who beat Town in last year’s Junior Cup final, held their own in the first half and were close to taking the lead just before the break when a shot hit a post.

But it was Tenbury who then opened the scoring when Tom Pitt went on a mazy run to create the space for Alex Bright to prod home.

Bright added a second soon after the restart and Town all but put the game to bed when his younger brother Declan got in on the action, bending in an 18-yard shot.

Goal number four came from the penalty spot when some nice build-up led to Alex Bright being tripped and Alex Lombardi stepped up to convert from the spot.

Substitute Dan Osborne poked home the fifth and the scoring was completed by a bullet header from Adam Everall.

Town boss Bob Sumner said: "We knew Ledbury would be tough opponents having played them in the final last year, but I think we scored at the right time, just on half-time, and getting our second goal so early in the second half killed them off.

“Neutrals wouldn’t have put it as a 6-0 game but we were clinical in front of goal and another clean sheet shows our discipline at the back.”

But while Town celebrated, Tenbury United were licking their wounds after suffering their first league defeat since the opening day of the season.

The Premier Division leaders lost 3-1 at second-placed Wellington Reserves, who are now five points behind United with three games in hand.

United co-boss Nick Stocker said:?“I can’t really grumble. Wellington were excellent going forward and made us pay for being wasteful in front of goal in the first half. We’ve still got a lot to learn against the top teams in this league but if I’m honest, on another day we could have been out of sight by half-time.”

United were behind within two minutes, but they were soon level, with some good link-up play between Dale Withers and Mike Foster giving Chris Patton a chance to equalise. He cut in from the right and drove an unstoppable shot in off a post.

For the rest of the half Tenbury were on top and should have gone in at half-time ahead. But they scorned a handful of decent openings and Wellington came out like a different team in the second half, scoring twice in ten minutes to take command.

United have the chance to quickly make amends when they entertain Wellington in the HFA?Charity Bowl this weekend.
