SKIPPER Malcolm Weaver paid tribute to his Ludlow GC team after they failed at the final hurdle in the Handicap League.

After a successful qualification against the likes of Sapey, Telford, Burghill Valley and Lilleshall Hall, plucky Ludlow were beaten by Worfield in the final.

It was Worfield’s first trophy in their 25-year history but the 4½ to 1½ defeat was not a true reflection of Ludlow’s commitment and passion.

"This competition has put Ludlow Golf Club on the map and it is clear we have some very talented and competitive players,” said club president Weaver. “The boys showed great team spirit throughout the tournament.”

A win for Weaver and Ken Bill (four up) and a half for Nigel Griffiths and Simon Herdsfield were the two successes on the day.

*GUY Jordan’s 65 net proved the best score in Ludlow GC’s monthly medal. He finished top in Division Three, with Tony Watton four shots back in second place.

Division One was a tight affair with four players tied at the top with a net 69. Phil Kinder won on countback, with Tony Roberts edging out Dave Fish and Harry Lines for runners-up spot. Paul Phillips won Division Two with a fine 67, finishing two clear of Ray Reynolds, who beat Rodger Jones on countback.

*ALISON Reynolds and Simon Jones followed up their second place in the first round of the Turkey Competition by winning round two on 35 points.

Eddie Rowland and Penny Scott finished second with 33, one shot clear of John and Pat Bown.

*CLEOBURY Mortimer GC were just pipped in a charity event at Brampton GC.

The event was over two days and finished with a Ryder Cup style match between select teams from Cleobury and Brampton. Though it finished tied at 8½ points apiece, Brampton kept the cup as they were reigning champions.
