CHURCH Stretton returned to winning ways after the shenanigans of their previous week’s controversial Division Two fixture at Prees with a eight-wicket eclipse of Cae Glas in the Shropshire County League.

Tight accurate bowling, notably from Martin Nichols (13-3-22-2), Tom Crump (9-1-21-1) and Saif Khalid (9-2-17-1) tied down Cae Glas to a modest 109-7 off 40 overs, with Gabriel ‘Diddy’ Williams also weighing in with 3-23 towards the end of the innings.

Opener Khalid then hit 49 before being stumped one run short of a half-century as Stretton eased home on 110-2 in the 27th over, Jonathan Wood unbeaten on 18.

Bishop’s Castle’s Division Two clash with Wellington 3rd was cancelled while Corvedale were beaten by 69 runs by Iscoyd and Fenns in Division Three.

Skipper Ross Mantle scored 22 and took 2-26 but Corvedale, replying to 182-9 and boosted by a liberal helping of 28 extras, disappointingly fell away from a promising 64-1 to 113 all out.

Corvedale 2nd suffered a similar defeat against Pontesbury 3rd – Harry Fiaz ‘failing’ for the first time in finishing wicketless with the ball and making only 39 off 19 balls (five sixes and two fours) with the bat – with 211-4 beating 142 all out. Muhammad Aamir finished on 45 not out off 40 balls batting at No.8.

Knighton on Teme collapsed to 70 all out to crash to a 173-run defeat against promotion-chasing Marden in Division Two of the Marches League.

Matt James hit 30 of those 70, which was in reply to Marden’s 243-9.
