JOINT boss Aaron Morris was the match-winner as Tenbury United dug deep to overturn a two-goal deficit against Herefordshire League Premier Division visitors Ledbury Town.

Ledbury led 2-0 approaching half-time, but Mike Foster gave United a lifeline with a header and second-half headers from Dale Withers and Morris saw Tenbury turn the tables for a character-filled 3-2 victory.

Edd Kerby made his debut in goal for United and the return of Foster for Lee Millichip was the only other change from last Tuesday night’s 1-0 derby win at Orleton Colts.

United started sluggishly and were behind early on to a well-taken header, and Ledbury then doubled their lead direct from a free-kick.

At that point United made some substitutions and just before half-time Foster pulled a goal back. The goal seemed to galvanise Tenbury and they created chances from the off after the interval.

Foster should have equalised and substitute Ian Patterson had two good opportunities, the second well saved by the Ledbury keeper. But Withers scored for the second game in a row to level things up and Morris then won it.

Tenbury co-manager Nick Stocker said: “The boys were excellent in the second half, and I must give them credit for that, but a slow start yet again almost cost us.

“We made a couple of substitutions late on in the first half and they made a massive difference. Ryan Morris and Ian Patterson came on to give us more width and they changed the game. Foster and Withers were excellent up top and the Ledbury defence couldn’t deal with them.

“We lost Gaz Edwards and Dan Ridley early on which didn’t help but the lads who came on and replaced them were brilliant. We have a really good squad at the moment and it was the strength from the bench that probably won us the game.”

l Tenbury, who are now up to third in the table, are at home again this weekend when they entertain Pegasus Reserves at Palmer’s Meadow. Pegasus got their first points on the board with a 4-2 home win over Lads Club Reserves last weekend.
