HARRY Lines was crowned Ludlow Golf Club champion for the second successive year to lift the Irvin Bowl.

All the competitors had to battle the elements during a weekend of bad weather but Lines came through it with a winning score of 149, one shot ahead of Ross Magill.?Nick Apperley was the first-round leader with an excellent 71 in the high winds on Saturday. He went into Sunday’s final round two shots ahead of Lines and Will Norton. ?With very wet and windy conditions on Sunday, scoring proved to be even more difficult.

Magill’s fine 75 for a total of 150 put the pressure on the final group. Nick Apperley made an excellent birdie on the last to finish in third place on 151 but Lines scored a solid par to finish on 149.

The next big event for Lines is the Midland Amateur Championship at Shifnal and Telford golf clubs on Friday, August 21 and Saturday, August 22.

The George Duncan Putter, awarded for the best 36-hole net score, was won by Jack Griffiths. He followed a solid 71 on Saturday with an exceptional 65 on Sunday to win by seven shots from Will Norton. Mike Gardner was third on 144.

*TARA Rodenhurst produced a clean sweep of the Junior Scratch and Junior Cup competitions. She finished narrowly ahead of junior captain Nathen Herdsfield, who was runner-up in both competitions.

Rodenhurst also defended her Ladies’ Club Championship title for the second time, and received the French Challenge Bowl from lady captain Janet Roberts. Her 36-hole winning score was 162 gross. The runner-up was Kim Simm on 174. The winner of the best 36-hole net was Yvette Southall with 152, winning the Kay Ward Cup. Margaret Harris was runner-up four shots adrift.

*CLEOBURY Mortimer’s Jack Severn is the 2015 County Under-16 champion after rounds of 79 and 71 at Halesowen Golf Club.

The 14-year-old also finished a creditable sixth in the combined Under-18 and Under-16 Boys Championship to qualify for the County Matchplay Championship later in the year.
