BURWAY’S Roy Crowther celebrated a memorable hat-trick when he lifted the Flowfit Ludlow and District Bowls League Veterans’ trophy for a third successive season at Clungunford BC.

The third year of the event saw the dominant Crowther again retain the trophy by beating Ken Willis of Craven Arms in the final.

Crowther came storming out the blocks to lead 14-5 and then 18-7. Willis tried in vain to get back into the game but Crowther eased to a memorable 21-11 win.

In the semi-finals, Crowther had beaten Corve’s Mike Weston, his opponent in the 2013 and 2014 finals.

Weston was desperate to avenge the results from the previous two years and after a close start put together a great run to lead 19-11. Crowther knew he had to knuckle down and he dug deep to come back to win the best game of the day 21-19.

The second semi-final saw Clungunford's Andrew Morton pitted against Willis. With Morton being a home bowler, he had to start on a minus 2 handicap and struggled early on with Willis taking an early 10-3 lead. Morton fired back to level things up 10-10 before Willis kicked on again to go 19-13 in front. Morton tried to rally again but Willis ran out the 21-14 victor.
