JACK Griffiths was the star of the show as Ludlow capped a fruitful week by returning to winning ways in the Shropshire County League with victory at Broseley.

Last Thursday they beat Wroxeter Grove by four wickets to reach finals day of the Lynx Shropshire Senior Slam at Bomere Heath on Sunday, July 12.

Then on Saturday Ludlow bounced back after back-to-back Premier Division defeats by defending a 166 total at Broseley in bowling out the home side for 118.

Ludlow lost both openers cheaply after being put in, but the 23-year-old Griffiths, batting a number four, stepped up to the plate to organise a recovery.

Keanu Cooper contributed 20 before Griffiths added 98 for the fourth wicket with Will Sparrow (39).

By the time Griffiths was eighth man out for 70 off 98 balls, Ludlow had pulled things around.

Like Ludlow, Broseley lost early wickets to Kevin Hinton and Alfie Holliehead and they were wobbling on 56-5. Gavin Jones provided some resistance but Ludlow skipper Sam Edwards removed him for 37 at 104-8 and Sparrow wrapped up the tail with 3-53, Griffiths clinging on to a couple of great catches in the deep.

Hinton returned excellent figures of 4-26 off 11 overs.

In the Senior Slam, Richard Taylor and Jamie Smith were key performers, Taylor taking 3-32 and Smith 2-17 in helping restrict Wroxeter to 106-9.

Harry Martin also weighed in with 2-9 and Smith led the chase with 31.

Keanu Cooper chipped in 20 but Taylor saw Ludlow home with four balls to spare with 19 not out from eight balls, including three fours and a six.

Ludlow 2nd were beaten by three wickets by Wellington 4th, despite 79 from Finlay Clarke, while some terrific late-order batting from Ludlow 3rd wasn’t enough to stave off defeat by Calverhall.

They were struggling on 85-7 before Adam Bowen joined Scott Kemsley at the crease.

The eighth-wicket pair added 72 before Kemsley was dismissed for 52, and Albert Wall then helped Bowen (55 not out) chip another 31 before Ludlow closed on 188-9.

However Calverhall eased home on 189-4.
