*CLEOBURY Golf Club have won praise for staging a successful first-ever Worcestershire Open Pro Am tournament.

The organisers and greenkeepers were up at 5am ensuring everything was in place for a memorable day that saw 26 teams of four from around the Midlands take part in an event sponsored by Kidderminster Self Storage.

The greens were lightning quick and the wind increased as the day went on. The first team out were Bransford and they made the most of the lighter conditions to record a 79 and eventual victory on the day. The amateurs picked up a fantastic Titleist stand bag and county jumper with the professional taking home £95.

The old and new generation of professionals on the local circuit took the individual plaudits. Luke Towler (Telford) dug deep to score 34 points despite dropping three shots on the last five holes. But his score was matched by Marcus Knight, who started his career at Cleobury some 20 years ago and made a special trip over from Switzerland to support the event. He shot a one under par on the tough back nine to also finish on 34 points. They took home £585 each.

Finley Clarke (Wharton Park) and Mark Plummer (Burlish Park) tied for third place and picked up £340 each while Chris Bottrill (Burlish Park), Tom Walbrick (Bromsgrove) and Ashley Picker (Gaudet Luce) finished equal fifth with 31 points to win £116.66 apiece.
