MARTIN Bower shot a fine 33 point score to win the Hendy 3 Club trophy at Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club.

This fun competition is played over 18 holes with competitors using three clubs, one of which must be a putter. Surprisingly there were some excellent scores posted but Bower’s 33 took the honours on countback from Dean Rogers. Club professional Sam Pain said: “The good thing about competitions like this is that there is no choice or indecision. I have coached Martin recently and he strikes the ball well.

With a full set of clubs he could have a great season.”

The summer season at Cleobury Mortimer has well and truly kicked off with some great golf being played.

Young Charlie Edwards, who has been practising hard over the last few weeks, recently carded an impressive 37 points and Simon Eades also played superbly to record 36 points. However they were beaten by John Westley, who has had a fantastic 2015 so far with individual and team wins already under his belt. He shot 39 points to take top spot on the day and inch ever closer to his goal of single figures. Pain said: “John has had a stand-out 2015 so far, being in the mix for many competitions. It is great to see him practising before he tees off. It is clearly working and he looks a dead cert for single figures before the end of the season.”
