NEW overseas import Kevin Hinton has quickly made himself at home with Ludlow CC.

Hinton followed his impressive four wickets and 67 on the opening Saturday of the season by emerging as the star of the show in last weekend’s four-wicket Shropshire County League verdict over Wroxeter Grove at The Burway.

The South African professional claimed five for 52 off 11 overs and then hit an unbeaten 26 to help Ludlow make it two victories out of two completed Premier Division games.

Skipper Sam Edwards said: “Kevin has fitted in well and it is looking promising. He is a decent lad and a decent player. He puts it on the spot, swings it both ways and knows what he is doing.

“We are a young side but it has been a great start to the season, despite the rain-off the other week.

"There is a good atmosphere about the side and hopefully we can keep it going and have more good days than bad days.”

Hinton had Wroxeter in early disarray at 25 for three, and with James Gerritse and Sam Alford both chipping in with two wickets apiece, the visitors were shot out for 133.

Skipper Sam Edwards then hit 42 for Ludlow, Jack Griffiths made 23 and Hinton hit four boundaries in his 26 not out to see the home side to victory on 136 for six in the 36th over.

Ludlow 2nd were beaten by eight wickets at Beacon, Keanu Cooper topscoring with 29 in their meagre 85 all out, the 3rds went down by five wickets to Chelmarsh, despite Rob Genner (71), Kev Boulton (48) and Matthew Porter (44) all getting amongst the runs.

But the 4ths had the best of a winning draw against Corvedale 2nd.

Century-maker Joe Williams produced the stand-out performance, hitting 107 (one six and 17 fours) of Ludlow’s 237 for six.

Luke Hicks also made 55 and Corvedale replied with 152 for four, opener Ian Alderson batting all through the 40 overs for 75 not out.
