LOWLY Hereford City party pooped Tenbury Town’s Division Two title celebrations in a dramatic top-versus-bottom upset in the Hereford Times Herefordshire League.

Table-topping Town, with the title already safely tucked away, suffered only their second league defeat of the season - and their first since September 20 - when they were beaten 2-1 at Palmers Meadow on Saturday.

Alex Lombardi scored their goal but Tenbury gifted the victory to bottom dogs Hereford with a bizarre 30-yard own goal from substitute Dean Morris.

The surprise win for Hereford, who had last tasted victory back in November, was only their fourth of the season and meant they moved off the foot of the table to finish ahead of both Civil Service and Kington Town Reserves in a surprise end to the Division Two programme.

But the defeat for shell-shocked Tenbury was a desperately disappointing way to draw the curtain on what has been a memorable campaign for Bob Sumner’s side.

As well as finishing top of Division Two, they reached two cup finals, losing to 5-0 to Worcester Olympic Under-21s in the Worcestershire Minor Cup and 2-1 to Ledbury Town Reserves in the HFA Junior Cup.

Saturday’s match also saw Town's Dave Coupland bring the curtain down on his playing career. The veteran defender has decided to hang up his boots at the age of 44.
