ORLETON Colts dug deep to lift the Newcastle Cup in a thrilling final at the Mill Field on Sunday.

They looked down and out as they trailed Presteigne Reserves 4-1 with five minutes of the first half left to play.

But a header from Scott Davies just before the break acted as the catalyst for a stunning second-half revival, with Colts overturning the deficit to secure a sensational 5-4 win with an 85th minute winner from man-of-the-match Dan Crowther.

Crowther had scored Orleton’s first and Davies also bagged a second, with Shane Jennings adding the other.

Player-manager Kristian Morgan said: “We were poor in the first half and they had a guy with a long throw that resulted in three of their goals.

"But we upped things and of all our comebacks over recent years, this must be the best.”

In Mercian Regional Football League Division One, League Brown Clee finished with a 2-0 home win over Donnington Community Sports and Social.

But there was no joy for Norbury, beaten 3-1 at Condover Foxes in their penultimate game in Division One of the Shrewsbury and District Sunday League.

The scoreline was harsh on Norbury as they enjoyed most of the play, only to trail 2-0 at the break. Rhys Evans crossed for John Hudson to pull a goal back but with only minutes left Foxes claimed a simple tap-in to clinch it.
