TENBURY Amateur Boxing Club have been recognised by England Boxing in being awarded clubmark recognition by the national governing body.

The prestigious accreditation scheme is a universally acknowledged cross-sport benchmark for community sports clubs focused on four key areas of development and based on criteria which must be supported by specific evidence.

The four areas are activity and playing programmes, including coaching qualifications, insurance and coach-to-participant ratios; duty of care and welfare with appropriate risk assessments, health and safety policies, training, compliance and child protection policies; knowing your club and its community, which ensures the club is committed to fairness and equity in respect of the way in seeks to attract and retain members from the local community; and club management, which covers issues to do with club and committee structures and the general running of the organisation, also addressing issues like safeguarding/child protection and equity.

The award is a real feather in the cap for the thriving Tenbury club and proud founder Martin 'Paddy' Brennan, who was presented with an inscribed glass trophy by England Boxing (reading From England Boxing to Tenbury ABC for achieving clubmark - quality club accreditation) said: “We are only a handful of clubs to have received this award and we are delighted than all our hard work has finally paid off.

“It shows that our club provides the right environment which ensures the welfare of members and encourages everyone to enjoy sport and stay involved throughout their lives.

“An accredited club is recognised as a safe, rewarding and fulfilling place for participants of all ages as well as helping parents and carers know that they're choosing the right club for their young people.”

The news comes on the back of Brennan hosting a successful international boxing show at Tenbury High School.

Ireland beat England 10-3 in the showpiece, with a return fixture set to take place in Ireland in November.
